A 38-year-old man died by suicide at the Dzhanelidze Research Institute of Emergency Medicine in St. Petersburg on July 18, shortly before a scheduled surgery.
The St. Petersburg resident had been hospitalized on July 16 after being attacked and beaten, sustaining a fracture to his left shoulder. He was examined and transferred to the hospital, where doctors scheduled an operation for July 18.
On the morning of July 18, around 8 a.m., hospital staff noticed the patient in a perilous position on the ninth floor of the building. A psychiatrist, police officers, and emergency services personnel were immediately dispatched to the scene. They spent an hour attempting to talk him down and dissuade him from self-harm.
Unfortunately, their efforts were unsuccessful. The man’s body was later discovered beneath the hospital windows. The Investigative Committee is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. He was last seen alive on the ninth floor of the hospital.
