Moscow is launching a pilot project to provide free gastrointestinal (GI) cancer prevention check-ups to residents. According to Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Social Development, Anastasia Rakova, eligible Muscovites will be able to undergo examinations at polyclinics or endoscopy centers.
The initiative aims to detect and treat GI pathologies early, preventing potential development into cancer. These diseases often develop without noticeable symptoms for extended periods.
Free check-ups are available to Muscovites who have not undergone an endoscopic examination of their gastrointestinal tract in recent years. Individuals can check their eligibility and schedule an appointment through their personal account in the Unified Medical Information and Analytical System (EMIAS). Referrals will be automatically generated for eligible individuals, allowing them to select a convenient date and time.
The program offers gastroscopy and colonoscopy procedures. Endoscopy centers provide these examinations under mild sedation, with the process taking up to two hours. Gastroscopy at district polyclinics is performed under local anesthesia. The examination also includes rapid testing for Helicobacter pylori.
If any pathologies are detected during the check-up, the patient’s therapist or general practitioner will promptly contact them to prescribe the necessary treatment.
