A fire in an apartment building on the Obvodny Canal embankment in St. Petersburg resulted in two fatalities and the rescue of a ginger cat on June 3rd. The blaze broke out in a three-room apartment on the third floor of the Admiralteysky district building around 1:30 PM and was extinguished in under an hour.
Firefighters discovered a ginger cat inside the burning apartment and carried it out wrapped in a blanket. The cat was then handed off to other members of the rescue team.
Tragically, two people who were inside the apartment at the time of the fire died. Evacuated residents were also seen carrying other pets away from the building.
Repair work that had been ongoing in the building since April has been temporarily stopped due to the incident.
