St. Petersburg’s “Sevkabel Port” public space now features “Kotello,” the first hotel designed for homeless cats, offering them shelter and food. The multi-level structure, styled as a glamping retreat, was created by Sevkabel employees in collaboration with a hotel booking service and the Nika animal welfare foundation.
The primary goal of “Kotello” is to provide warmth and shelter for the cats that have long inhabited the area, while also facilitating their adoption into permanent homes. Visitors to Sevkabel Port have the opportunity to meet the feline residents and potentially adopt them.
Deputy General Director of Sevkabel Port, Valentina Antyushina, noted the company’s commitment to the cats, stating that employees and residents already provide food and care for them, with many cats having been adopted. She added that the hotel provides a safe haven while the organization works on sterilization and vaccination programs.
The design of “Kotello” integrates seamlessly into the public space’s architecture. The insulated structure is equipped with amenities such as food and water bowls, scratching posts, and sunbeds. The multi-level design includes shelves and platforms at varying heights, allowing each cat to find a comfortable spot.
An information plate with a QR code will be installed near the hotel, linking to a chatbot that shares the cats’ stories and provides guidance on interacting with stray animals. The chatbot will also offer resources for finding homes for the cats, along with a special bonus.
The cat hotel is located within the “Istkabel” area of Sevkabel Port, accessible by walking to the end of the Bar Line.
