A 37-year-old businessman driving a Rolls-Royce has been detained in St. Petersburg following a traffic incident on May 31, 2025, where a motorcyclist was seriously injured. The driver is under investigation for allegedly violating traffic rules and operating a vehicle in a manner that led to the accident.

The incident occurred on Peterhof Highway when the Rolls-Royce, driven by the businessman, reportedly struck a motorcyclist while making an illegal U-turn across a double solid line. Eyewitnesses at the scene reported that the driver allegedly attempted to conceal the car’s license plates after the collision.

The motorcyclist is currently hospitalized, and doctors describe his condition as serious.

The Main Investigation Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region is handling the case, and a decision regarding a preventive measure for the driver is expected soon. The investigation falls under Article 264 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, which addresses violations of traffic rules and vehicle operation. Separately, the Investigative Committee for the Krasnoselsky District is also conducting an investigation into the matter, initially opened under attempted murder charges, though the validity of these charges is being questioned.

Prior to his detention, the driver was summoned to the police station the previous night but failed to appear, leading to law enforcement officers having to seek his presence.

It has been reported that an individual with the same name as the detained driver had their driver’s license revoked in 2020 for driving into the oncoming lane. This individual was later apprehended for driving without a license. After regaining his license in 2024, the man has accumulated 41 traffic fines.
