Large-Scale Book Fair and Cultural Events to Celebrate Pushkin’s Birthday in Moscow

Moscow will host a large-scale book fair on Red Square from June 4th to 7th, coinciding with Alexander Pushkin’s birthday on June 6th. The event will feature over 400 publishers from across Russia and offer a diverse program of events.

The “Red Square” Book Festival will feature 14 themed venues, including fiction, poetry, children’s literature, non-fiction, and more. Visitors can expect to find tens of thousands of books, meet their favorite authors, and enjoy concerts against the backdrop of the Kremlin.

A concert by Yuri Bashmet’s “New Russia” Symphony Orchestra, dedicated to the 225th anniversary of “The Tale of Igor’s Campaign,” will open the festival on June 4th. June 6th will be dedicated to Alexander Pushkin, marking the 200th anniversary of the first chapter of “Eugene Onegin.” The festival will feature lectures, premieres of romances based on Pushkin’s poems, and a venue for continuous poetry performances.

Meetings with authors such as Daria Dontsova, Evgeny Vodolazkin, and Zakhar Prilepin, as well as actors Dmitry Dyuzhev and Anton Shagin, are planned. A children’s program with performances, master classes, and quests will also be available. Visitors can participate in the “Give a Child a Book” campaign by donating publications to hospitals in the Kursk region. Admission to the “Red Square” Book Festival is free, and it will be open from 10:00 to 22:00 on June 4th and 5th, and from 10:00 to 22:30 on June 6th and 7th.

In addition to the book fair, the “Teatralny Bulvar” festival will offer unusual performances based on Pushkin’s works on June 6th and 7th. The “Palaty Boyar Romanovykh” museum will host a program on June 7th dedicated to Pushkin, featuring tours, theatrical stories, and literary and musical compositions. Traditionally, the A. S. Pushkin Museum and its branches will offer free admission on June 6th, with festive concerts, literary excursions, and lectures.
