Bakhrushin Theatre Museum Opens New Building with Art and Design Exhibition

The Bakhrushin Theatre Museum near Paveletskaya metro station has opened a new building to the public, hosting its first exhibition since restoration began. Located at 20 Tatarskaya Street, the new museum building is currently the only accessible part of the complex.

The inaugural exhibition, dedicated to art and design, opened on May 16. An MSK1.RU correspondent toured the exhibition, showcasing the interior of the new building and the ongoing work on the rest of the museum complex.

The exhibition is housed in a ground-floor hall featuring sliding partitions that allow for space expansion. The hall is decorated in black and white tones with beige columns equipped with sockets and USB ports for interactive exhibits. A balcony runs along the perimeter of the hall, with plans for classrooms, offices, and collection storage on the second floor, which is currently inaccessible.

Turnstiles are installed at the hall’s entrance, not yet operational but intended for ticket scanning upon full opening. A small room, cordoned off with a red ribbon, contains building materials and equipment, hinting at a future office space. A store near the entrance offers souvenirs from the Bakhrushin Museum, with a cafe and summer terrace planned for later addition.

Outside the new building, a yellow metal fence marks the ongoing restoration work on the majority of the museum’s territory. A new glass extension has been erected next to the old building, with construction trailers nearby. Landscaping is underway on the museum grounds, with employees tending to shrubs and flowers. The new glass extension is currently closed off with a metal sheet, and a green canvas obscures the view between it and the Bakhrushin mansion, where construction debris is visible.

Restoration work on the main building, the Bakhrushin mansion, appears to be progressing slowly. While taped windows were removed from the top floor last year, dust remains on the glass. Cracked glass is visible in the semi-basement of the mansion.

The opening dates for the main building and the rest of the museum territory remain unknown. MSK1.RU has requested clarification from the Bakhrushin Museum’s press service and will publish updates as soon as they are received.
