The historical “Land Manege” in Kronstadt is undergoing restoration based on archival materials and community input, with completion expected by 2026, transforming it into a modern sports complex.
The project aims to revive the landmark, which has a rich history dating back to 1876. District Head Andrei Kononov confirmed that significant progress has already been made.
Builders have completed the dismantling of floors and balconies, paving the way for the restoration of the brickwork. Restoration of the outer walls is already a quarter complete, while the inner walls are 20% restored.
Work is also underway to repair the defensive wall and restore the original columns and loopholes on the facade. In the coming months, the installation of the ceiling covering and connection to the external water supply will commence.
The third stage of the Land Manege restoration began this year, with an initial target completion date of November 2025. The entire complex is slated for complete restoration by 2026.
Originally built on the site of the fortress wall arches for military training, the Land Manege evolved over time. In 1891, it was expanded with the addition of the Vladimir Church, followed by further expansion to the west in 1896.
After the revolution, the building served various purposes, including a cinema and a sports club for the Navy. A fire in 1996 led to the abandonment of the arena.
The restored Land Manege is envisioned as a key component of the developing island district, contributing to the area’s cultural and public life. The transformation aims to provide a modern state sports complex, revitalizing a historical landmark for the benefit of the community.
