A 75-year-old man will face trial for the murder of a taxi driver in the Novosibirsk region. The incident occurred after a day of drinking, leading to a fatal conflict.
The Investigative Committee reports that the suspect, a resident of the Altai Territory, hired a taxi from Novosibirsk to Barnaul. After consuming alcohol during the ride, the passenger was taken to the taxi driver’s home in the Cherepanovsky district to spend the night in the car.
The following morning, the taxi driver invited the passenger inside, and they continued drinking. The situation escalated when the passenger accused the driver of stealing his money, sparking a dispute.
During the argument, the man allegedly struck the taxi driver with a chair, and the passenger retaliated by grabbing a kitchen knife and inflicting multiple fatal wounds to the head and neck. He then reportedly fell asleep on the sofa.
The victim’s 12-year-old son discovered the body upon returning home from a walk.
A criminal case has been opened against the 75-year-old man under Part 1 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Murder”). It has been noted that the suspect has two prior convictions. The investigation is complete, and the case, with the prosecutor’s approved indictment, has been sent to court.
