Novosibirsk Celebrates City Day with Mass SUP Boarding Event

Novosibirsk residents celebrated City Day with a vibrant mass SUP boarding event on the Ob River. Participants donned creative carnival costumes and embarked on an 8 km journey along the river.

The event, organized by Evgeny Popov, president of the SUP Surfing Federation of the Novosibirsk Region, has become a popular tradition. Many participants brought their own SUP boards, while others rented them from the organizer.

The route started from the “European Coast,” and after a safety briefing, the participants paddled off to explore the Ob River’s hidden corners. Costumes ranged from a lone samurai to sorceresses, mermaids, and characters from fairy tales and films like “Alice in Wonderland.” Participants expressed their enjoyment of celebrating Novosibirsk’s birthday in this unique way, with some even using the event as a break from family life.

The SUP rafting experience offered a chance to disconnect from the outside world and connect with nature and fellow participants. The journey included stops for relaxation and photo opportunities along the Mikhailovskaya Embankment. Instructors accompanied the group, providing guidance and assistance to those who encountered difficulties.

Despite a few unplanned swims due to the current, participants successfully navigated the route, which concluded at the “Lokomotiv” beach in Zayeltsovsky Park. After almost three hours on the water, the costumed paddlers were greeted by enthusiastic beachgoers, who were curious about the event. Participants shared their experiences and exchanged City Day greetings, ending the celebration with cheers.
