Irkutsk Region to Evaluate and Potentially Reward Citizens Who Interfered with Drone Launch

The Irkutsk region’s operational headquarters will assess the actions of citizens who attempted to block the launch of drones on June 1 and decide on a reward for their efforts. This decision follows the first-ever drone attack on the Irkutsk region.

Governor Igor Kobzev announced the assessment on his Telegram channel on June 2, stating that the operational headquarters would evaluate the citizens’ actions and determine appropriate recognition.

According to the Ministry of Defense, the drones targeted a military unit in the village of Sredny, Usolsky district. The drones were launched from a truck, and one UAV crashed onto an old building. Fortunately, there were no reported casualties.

As of Monday, the situation in the Usolsky district is under control, and there is no threat to the population, according to Governor Kobzev.

Access to the affected area remains restricted. A small section of the R-255 “Siberia” federal highway in the Usolsky district remains closed, with traffic being diverted through the village of Malta.

Governor Kobzev has urged residents to refrain from discussing the incident online and to rely solely on official sources for information.
