A criminal case has been initiated following the death of a nine-year-old boy in the Vyborgsky district of the Leningrad region. The regional Investigative Committee announced the opening of the case on June 2, citing death by negligence.
The incident occurred in the village of Glubokoye around 2 p.m. the previous day. The boy, visiting from Vyborg for the weekend with his mother, was exploring an unfinished garage on an abandoned plot.
Preliminary investigations reveal that the child pulled on a metal gate leaning against the garage wall. The structure subsequently fell, crushing him.
The boy died at the scene before paramedics arrived. He was reportedly accompanied by a friend at the time of the accident.
This marks the second similar tragedy involving children in the Leningrad region within the past 24 hours. On May 31, two girls died under rubble in an abandoned house in the village of Terpilitsy. They were filming a video when a concrete slab collapsed on them.
