US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov discussed upcoming negotiations with Ukraine and the recent explosions on railways in Russia during a telephone conversation. Rubio offered condolences for civilian victims of the railway infrastructure damage in the Bryansk and Kursk regions on June 1, according to the Russian Foreign Ministry press service.
Lavrov assured Rubio that a thorough investigation into the railway incidents will be conducted by the competent authorities, and the findings will be made public soon.
The two also exchanged views on various initiatives aimed at a political resolution of the Ukrainian crisis. This included discussing plans to restart direct Russian-Ukrainian negotiations in Istanbul.
