265 Million Rubles Allocated for Development of Novosibirsk Zoo; New Enclosures Planned

The Novosibirsk Zoo is set to undergo significant development with an allocation of 265 million rubles this year. The funds will be used to construct new animal enclosures and complexes, focusing on recreating natural habitats.

Construction has already commenced on an enclosure for pygmy hippos as part of the “Africa” complex. This is part of a broader plan to develop the zoo’s territory until 2050, with a focus on creating zones that mimic the natural environments of various animal species.

The “Asia” complex is nearing completion, with new enclosures planned for muntjacs, coatis and raccoons, golden takins, Baird’s tapirs and honey badgers, Japanese macaques, and red pandas.

Future plans include pavilions for felines from South and North America, as well as the “North” complex designed for polar bears, arctic wolves, owls, and arctic foxes. The design for a new veterinary clinic has also been finalized.

Governor Andrey Travnikov noted that Rosneft will co-finance the construction of a new enclosure for polar bears.

The zoo receives annual state support, with this year’s funding comprising 185 million rubles from the Novosibirsk Region budget and 80 million rubles from the Novosibirsk budget.
