Tatiana Drozdova, a 23-year-old woman, has died in Novosibirsk after a long struggle with ADA-TKIN disease, a severe combined immunodeficiency. The young woman’s death follows a period of declining health and complications from pneumonia.
According to her mother, Alena, Tatiana’s condition had worsened significantly in the past two months, with two bouts of pneumonia.
Tatiana experienced chest and back pain in late May. After several days of pain and self-medication with painkillers, a clinic visit confirmed pneumonia, leading to her hospitalization.
Despite receiving treatment, Tatiana’s condition continued to deteriorate. She reported blurred vision and severe headaches, leading her mother to suspect brain swelling.
On the morning of her death, Tatiana was found unresponsive. Despite being taken to intensive care, she never regained consciousness and passed away.
The case had previously drawn attention due to the high cost of a foreign drug needed for her treatment, estimated at 50 million rubles per month, which she reportedly did not receive. Alexander Bastrykin had ordered a criminal case to be opened following an appeal from Tatiana’s mother.
