A new political party is set to emerge from the “Vredi” platform, with plans to participate jointly in the upcoming local elections. Procedures for establishing the new entity are scheduled to commence next week, according to Deputy Prime Minister and leader of the Democratic Movement, Izet Medziti.
Medziti emphasized the public’s desire for a unified and coordinated political option. The focus is on the success of the unification, regardless of who assumes the leadership role. The new party aims to have a joint headquarters, information center, program, and list of councilors. While candidates for mayoral positions are yet to be determined, Medziti believes the core essence of the party is more important than the specific details of its name or leader.
Tensions have arisen within the coalition due to the Alliance for Albanians’ decision to present its own list of councilors in the local elections. Arben Taravari, president of the Alliance for Albanians, clarified that this decision does not signify a departure from “Vredi” and that they will remain part of the government.
However, Medziti views this move as beneficial to their political opponent, DUI. He believes the public will recognize the implications of this decision and that it effectively distances the Alliance for Albanians from the coalition. The situation also raises concerns about the stability of the governing coalition. While no decision has been made yet, the possibility of seeking Taravari’s dismissal from his ministerial position in health is being considered.
