VMRO-DPMNE has strongly criticized SDSM leader Venko Filipche following his recent interview where he praised former Prime Minister Zoran Zaev. The ruling party accuses Filipche of showing “unreserved loyalty” to Zaev, whom he allegedly called an example to learn from.
The party further claims that Filipche is glorifying a figure who, in their view, committed the greatest betrayal of national interests. According to VMRO-DPMNE, Zaev’s legacy is solely one of betrayal and the selling off of national interests.
VMRO-DPMNE asserts that Filipche’s views demonstrate that he is “a faithful shadow and extended arm of Zaev” and that he has begun down a similar path, seeking leniency in relations with Bulgaria. This reaction was triggered by Filipche’s calls for continued negotiations with Bulgaria.
The party questions whether “courage” for Filipche means accepting demands that lead to the sale and disruption of national identity.
VMRO-DPMNE emphasizes that true courage and statesmanship lie in protecting the ethnic, cultural, historical, and linguistic interests of Macedonia, rather than succumbing to foreign pressures. The party suggests that Filipche is following in Zaev’s footsteps and that Macedonia does not need new betrayals.
