Arben Taravari, Minister of Health and a leader within the VLEN coalition, publicly criticized the coalition’s performance, citing sluggish operations and the need for improved synchronization. He attributes this assessment not only to his personal observations but also to surveys indicating dissatisfaction among Albanians regarding VLEN’s effectiveness in the Government.
Taravari emphasized that while the quantity of Albanian representation in government positions might be adequate, the quality of their performance is lacking, contributing to a widespread perception of underperformance. He also addressed the upcoming local elections, highlighting the challenges of forming joint lists for councilors and mayoral candidates given VLEN’s internal dynamics.
Discussing VLEN’s future, Taravari expressed a desire for unity but admitted that his “intuition tells him that the sustainability of VLEN and after the elections to be one party is almost an impossible mission.” He confirmed that the meeting with Kosovo’s Prime Minister Albin Kurti was conducted in a positive atmosphere and denied any influence from Albania’s Prime Minister Edi Rama regarding concerns about the status of Albanians in the country.
While praising Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski’s positive relationship with coalition partners, Taravari criticized the competence of VLEN’s personnel choices, particularly at director and deputy minister levels. He highlighted issues such as disagreements over trilingual signage and media disputes, although he acknowledged the absence of fabricated cases or scandals within the Government. Despite these challenges, Taravari reiterated that the overall relationship with the Prime Minister is “super correct.”
