An SDSM MP has accused the government of conducting a selective investigation into the Kochani tragedy, which resulted in the deaths of 62 young people and injuries to over 100 others.
MP Mitko Trajchuleski addressed Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski during a parliamentary session, alleging that the investigation appeared to be protecting current officials.
Trajchuleski stated that after more than a month, it’s clear that high-ranking government officials lack a sense of moral responsibility, evidenced by the absence of any resignations following the devastating accident. He believes the investigation is intentionally designed to shield individuals currently holding high positions within the Ministry of Interior, the State Market Inspectorate, and other institutions from accountability.
Trajchuleski asserted that the way the investigation is being handled supports the idea that there is an attempt to contaminate and dilute the investigation to conceal the direct responsibility of those who should have prevented the tragedy.
He criticized the focus on events from decades ago as an attempt to appease the public while failing to identify those directly responsible for the disco fire. Trajchuleski believes that attempting to place blame solely on individuals indirectly connected to the incident and who held positions over a decade ago, while neglecting to hold accountable those who made critical errors at the time of the accident, will not succeed.
