A delegation from the Federation of Trade Unions of Macedonia (SSM) met with government representatives to discuss wage increases. The SSM President, Slobodan Trendafilov, stated the union’s demands for raising the minimum wage and salaries for all workers, including a 12.6% increase for the public sector. He warned that if these demands are not met, the SSM would advocate for officials’ salaries to be reduced to the minimum wage.
The SSM publicly voted to reduce officials’ salaries to 500 euros until the minimum wage is increased as they requested. This action was taken in response to the government’s decision to increase the minimum wage to 400 euros, which is less than the 500 euros the trade unions requested.
The meeting was called by the Government, and the SSM is using it as an opportunity to press its demands for fair wages for workers. Trendafilov mentioned the presence of colleagues from other unions at the meeting, and promised a further report after the meeting concludes.
