Thousands of Workers Left Unpaid by the Government

Thousands of state employees across various sectors in North Macedonia are facing financial hardship due to unpaid salaries, weeks after the legal deadline. The situation has sparked outrage and accusations of government incompetence.

The opposition party, SDSM, has condemned the government for failing to meet its basic obligation of paying earned wages. They highlight the severity of the situation, stating that it’s not merely an economic issue but a violation of workers’ rights and dignity.

Employees in various state institutions, including cultural workers, those in the Ministry of Economy, and the State Market Inspectorate, are among those affected.

SDSM has accused the ruling DPMNE party of leading the country into a state where the government struggles to fulfill its most fundamental responsibilities. They criticized the government’s alleged disinterest in workers’ welfare, accusing officials of prioritizing luxuries while workers struggle to make ends meet.

The opposition party emphasized that salaries are a legally guaranteed right, not a reward.

SDSM stated that thousands of families are struggling to survive, facing rising prices and bills while the government rejects requests for salary increases. They claim that Macedonian workers are the most undervalued in the region.

SDSM demands the immediate payment of all outstanding salaries, emphasizing the importance of respecting workers’ dignity and recognizing them as the pillar of society.
