Skopje Mayor Danela Arsovska has publicly accused Gjorche Petrov Mayor Aleksandar Stojkoski of failing to address illegal construction and the approval of high-rise buildings at unsafe distances within his municipality. Arsovska’s accusations center on a Detailed Urban Plan (DUP) that she claims Stojkoski pushed forward despite opposition from the City of Skopje.
Arsovska has challenged Stojkoski to hold a referendum, allowing residents of Gjorche Petrov to voice their opinions on the construction of chemical factories and numerous high-rise buildings in their community. She asserts that Stojkoski did not consult residents before approving the DUP, which includes plans for chemical factories on a 157,000 m2 area, as well as over 30 high-rise buildings in the central part of the municipality.
Arsovska supported her claims with a series of visual aids, including comparisons of the original DUP with the one approved by Stojkoski, images of the location in question, and depictions of the planned chemical factories. She made the entire DUP available on the municipality’s website for public review. Arsovska directly questioned Stojkoski whether he had asked the inhabitants of Gjorche Petrov if they desired chemical factories and more than 30 high-rise buildings.
