Screening of Digitally Restored “Miss Stone” Film at Veles “5re” Festival

A digitally restored copy of the film “Miss Stone” (1958) will be screened tonight, Monday, April 14th, at 8:00 PM in the Veles theater “Jordan Hadzi Konstantinov-Dzinot.” The screening is part of the program for the fourth edition of the Veles festival “5re,” and is made possible by the Cinematheque of Macedonia.

The festival is dedicated to the legendary actor Petre Prlicko, and the audience will be reminded of his role in the film as the character Mandana.

Prlicko won the “Golden Arena” at the Pula festival in 1959 for his role as Mandana. “Miss Stone” is the first Macedonian feature film shot in color and in totalscope technique. The cast includes Petre Prlicko, Olga Spiridonovic, Ilija Milcin, Ilija Dzuvalekovski, Marija Tocinovski, Dragan Ocokolik, Darko Dameski, Dragi Kostovski, Vukan Dinevski, and others, playing roles of komitas, missionaries, Turkish soldiers, revolutionaries, and villagers.

The Cinematheque of Macedonia’s announcement highlights Mandana’s speech in the film when Katerina gives birth, calling it one of the most popular lines in Macedonian film history. The speech symbolizes the Macedonian struggle for freedom, as Mandana wishes the newborn well and reminds them to remember the detachment fighting for their freedom.
