Rehearsals for Tony Kushner’s “Angels in America” (Part I) have commenced at the Macedonian National Theatre (MNT) in Skopje. The production is a collaboration between MNT and the Association for Affirmation of Theatre Art “Presvrt.”
Directed, translated, and choreographed by Filip Petkovski, the play promises a modern interpretation within a Macedonian framework. The premiere is anticipated for late May 2025, following rehearsals throughout April and May.
Petar Antevski is producing the play, with set design by Martin Manev and costume design by Antonija Guginska-Jordanoska. Antonija Belazelkovska is assisting with direction.
The cast includes Jordan Simonov, Tanja Kochovska, Natalija Teodosieva, Damjan Cvetanovski, Stefan Spasov, Aleksandar Stoimenovski, Ilina Jovanovski, and Nela Pavlovska.
“Angels in America,” a landmark of contemporary American theater, explores life, politics, and identity in 1980s America against the backdrop of the AIDS crisis and conservative political shifts. This production aims to provide a relevant and powerful reading of the play in the Macedonian context.
MNT and “Presvrt” are continuing their commitment to presenting current, challenging, and artistically significant works on the Macedonian stage with this co-production.
