The game witnessed Vardar initially taking the lead, with Manevski scoring in the 27th minute. Manevski emotionally revealed a tribute to Andrej Lazarov, a footballer who perished in the Kočani fire, after his goal.
However, Red Star quickly responded, with Ilić and captain Katai scoring before halftime to give Red Star the lead. Red Star managed to turn the game around by the end of the first half.
Uroš Sremčević sealed the victory for Red Star with a goal in the 87th minute. The final score was 3-1 in favor of the visiting team. The fire in Kočani resulted in 61 fatalities and almost 200 injuries, primarily impacting teenagers.
