Public enterprise “Lajka” is raising concerns about a significant increase in the abandonment of pet dogs near the Butel city cemetery. The organization reports a continuous stream of dogs being left by irresponsible owners, who transport them from various parts of the city to this location.
This trend, according to “Lajka,” not only constitutes animal cruelty but also poses a serious threat to public health, citizen safety, and the proper functioning of public facilities in the area. The abandoned dogs, frequently unsterilized, reproduce and spread throughout the broader urban area, making it more difficult to manage the stray animal population.
PE “Lajka” is urging the public to refrain from abandoning animals, emphasizing that it is a punishable offense under the Law on Protection and Welfare of Animals. Citizens are encouraged to report such incidents to the appropriate authorities, providing video or photo evidence if possible. They are also advised to seek information on adoption, sterilization, and responsible pet ownership.
In response, PE “Lajka” will collaborate with inspection services to intensify monitoring efforts and file charges against individuals caught committing this offense.
