Prosecutor’s Office to Appeal Acquittal of Father in Vanja Gjorgjevska Murder Case

The Prosecutor’s Office has announced it will appeal the acquittal of Aleksandar Gjorgjevski, the father of the murdered 14-year-old Vanja Gjorgjevska, who was accused of providing information related to her kidnapping.

Prosecutor Ana Stojkovic Dimitrievska stated that the prosecution believes there are grounds for appeal, despite the court’s decision. She emphasized that only Vanja’s parents were aware of her routine of walking to school alone. According to the prosecutor, two of the defendants initially claimed they obtained this information from Gjorgjevski via Ljupco Palevski, although they later retracted their statements.

Dimitrievska pointed out that the defendants provided no credible explanation for changing their testimonies. Furthermore, the prosecutor dismissed claims of torture, asserting that such allegations were neither realistic nor substantiated.

The Criminal Court previously sentenced Ljupco Palevski, Bore Videski, Velibor Manev, and Vlatko Keshishov to life imprisonment for the kidnapping and murder of both Vanja Gjorgjevska and 74-year-old Panche Zhezovski. Aleksandar Gjorgjevski, Vanja’s father, was acquitted of all charges.
