Prosecutor’s Office Requests Detention Extension for Suspects in Kočani Fire Investigation

The Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office in Kočani has requested the Court to extend the detention for all suspects in the investigation into the fire at the “Puls” disco in Kočani. The tragic incident, which occurred on March 16, resulted in the deaths of 61 people and injuries to over 100 others.

According to the Prosecutor’s Office, proposals have been submitted to the Basic Court of Kočani to extend security measures, including detention and house arrest, for all individuals suspected of involvement in the fire. However, the Prosecutor’s Office is requesting that the detention measure be replaced with house arrest for three of the suspects.

These three suspects include two individuals from the State Market Inspectorate and one member of the disco’s security personnel. The decision to request house arrest for these individuals is based on the current stage of evidence gathering and the fulfillment of legal requirements.

The Prosecutor’s Office emphasized that the investigation is ongoing and involves multiple avenues of inquiry across various institutions. The aim is to thoroughly examine all possible angles of responsibility related to the fire. The public will be promptly informed once the Prosecutor’s Office reaches an appropriate prosecutorial decision based on the findings of the investigation.
