Prime Minister Anticipates Positive Development Regarding US Import Tariffs

Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski anticipates positive news today concerning the 33 percent tariff imposed by the US on imports of Macedonian products, offering reassurance to both citizens and the economy. Teams are actively working on the matter, and consistent communication is ongoing, according to Mickoski.

The government is in constant communication with US institutions, including the Ministry of Economy, Finance, the State Department, and the office of President Donald Trump, Mickoski said. Minister of Foreign Affairs Timcho Mucunski discussed the tariff issue during a meeting with the Secretary of State.

Earlier this week, the US introduced new tariffs on imports from 180 countries, including Macedonia, setting the tariff for Macedonian imports at 33 percent. In response, the Macedonian government has assured the public that the decision will not significantly impact the economy and that a plan is in place to manage the situation, advising against panic and hasty reactions.

Last year, trade between Macedonia and the US totaled 314 million dollars, with Macedonian exports accounting for 118 million dollars.
