Prime Minister Addresses Roma Community on International Roma Day

Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski emphasized the importance of recognizing Roma as an integral nation within the country, celebrating their rich culture and addressing the historical injustices they have faced. The government is committed to breaking down systemic barriers through targeted policies and projects aimed at achieving equality.

Mickoski outlined the government’s commitment to investing in educational policies to ensure equal opportunities for Roma children, viewing education as a pathway to overcoming generations of injustice and exclusion. He highlighted efforts to integrate Roma into the labor market through active employment measures, training programs, and support for self-employment.

The Prime Minister noted the progress made in recent years, with over 1,000 Roma individuals finding employment or starting their own businesses. Additionally, the government is supporting infrastructure improvements in Roma communities, including renovations to roofs, sewerage systems, and access to essential utilities, as well as building new social housing.

Mickoski stated that the government’s vision is to ensure that Roma people are viewed not merely as a minority to be tolerated or included, but as equal citizens with the same rights and opportunities as everyone else. He stressed the importance of empowering Roma to participate fully in society and live with dignity.
