A panel discussion on “The Role of Francophonie in the World and the Region” was held by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade to commemorate Francophonie Month.
The event featured addresses by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, H.E. Timcho Mucunski, and ambassadors from several Francophone nations accredited to the Republic of North Macedonia, including France, Switzerland, Romania, and Greece.
The discussion centered on Francophonie’s significance as a community of shared values, cultural exchange, and unity, particularly in the context of current geopolitical and regional issues.
Minister Timcho Mucunski stated that Francophonie embodies values such as dialogue, equality, respect, and cooperation, which are crucial for stability and development.
He further noted that membership in Francophonie allows North Macedonia to affirm its identity, language, history, and cultural heritage, as well as its commitment to peace, democracy, tolerance, and solidarity. He emphasized the historical and future importance of the French language for the country.
The diplomatic representatives highlighted Francophonie’s role in fostering intercultural connections, supporting peace and democracy, and promoting education, youth involvement, and gender equality. They also underscored the need for stronger regional cooperation based on Francophone principles.
