North Macedonia to Amend Healthcare Laws for Digitization and Efficiency

The Ministry of Health in North Macedonia has initiated preparations to amend 12 fundamental healthcare laws to ensure a fair, efficient, and accountable healthcare system through digitization. According to Minister of Health, Azir Aliu, these changes are essential for modernizing healthcare.

Each law will be addressed by a dedicated expert working group. This approach emphasizes the need for precise, systemic rules rather than improvisational measures in building a contemporary healthcare system.

Aliu stressed the importance of data-driven decision-making. The Ministry has begun mapping the current healthcare landscape to realistically assess capacities, needs, and existing gaps. He stated that the era of subjective decision-making is over, and the future of healthcare relies on data, not habit.

The Ministry is actively developing a system based on five pillars, aiming to transform healthcare into a stable and politically independent entity. Digitization is a key foundation of this system, enabling healthcare to operate on real data.

The goal is to create a system that functions like an algorithm, with clearly defined inputs, processes, and outcomes, with the citizen receiving human care at the center. Aliu assured that these processes are designed to intensify and deliver measurable results.
