North Macedonia has enacted the Law on Fair and Adequate Representation, hailed as a landmark achievement for equality and justice. The legislation aims to ensure the constitutional principle of fair representation is implemented across state institutions.
The VLEN coalition emphasizes that this law establishes a concrete and binding framework for enforcing the constitutional principle of adequate representation, something it says has been lacking.
According to VLEN, the law introduces an executive mechanism designed to monitor and secure the effective and responsible implementation of representation. They assert that this achievement comes after 24 years of inaction following the Ohrid Framework Agreement.
VLEN states the new law lays a strong foundation for advancing representation toward equality, dignity, and justice for all communities. They criticize opponents of the law, accusing them of perpetuating inadequate representation and manipulation.
The VLEN coalition concludes that the law is a responsibility towards the future of the state and its citizens, expressing confidence that citizens will embrace the change it brings.
