Nikola Micevski, coordinator of the VMRO-DPMNE parliamentary group, calls for a complete reset in the country following the tragedy in Kochani, emphasizing the need for proactive measures rather than reactive responses.
Micevski highlighted the drafting of a new Law on Explosive Materials for Civil Use, noting the necessity for urgent amendments to the Law on Misdemeanors against Public Order and Peace in light of the Kochani incident. While comprehensive legal changes were planned, their implementation was not achieved, necessitating an immediate response.
The proposed law prohibits the use of specific pyrotechnic devices in enclosed spaces, with additional changes planned for both the Law on Explosive Materials for Civil Use and the Law against Misdemeanors against Public Order and Peace.
Addressing Inquiry Committees, Micevski stated that the Social Democratic Union is promoting certain topics without submitting formal proposals to the Assembly. He also raised concerns about the European Front’s initiative, deeming it unconstitutional due to insufficient signatures and questioning the committee’s investigative authority.
Micevski differentiated the current parliamentary majority from its predecessors, affirming their openness to discussing proposals aligned with the Constitution and the law, including past issues such as the Modular Hospital, Oncology, Besa Trans, Durmo Tours, and public procurement within the Ministry of Health.
He emphasized the importance of allowing ongoing institutional investigations to proceed without political interference, praising the swift response of institutions to the Kochani tragedy and anticipating a transparent process to address all questions.
Regarding a potential leaders’ meeting, Micevski noted the absence of an official request despite media discussions, suggesting the meeting may be a strategy for Venko Filipche to reassert his political relevance. He views such a meeting as potentially unproductive, serving primarily to involve VMRO-DPMNE and the ruling coalition in an unnecessary endeavor.
