New Contract-for-Difference Mechanism Introduced to Boost Renewable Energy Investments

The Ministry of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources, working with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), has initiated the introduction of the “Contract-for-Difference – CfD” mechanism to support investments in renewable energy sources. The CfD model, proven in the EU, will speed up investments in renewable energy facilities while protecting consumers from market instability.

Minister Sanja Bozhinovska highlighted that CfD is a systemic change providing stability for investors and protection for consumers, setting predictable and sustainable conditions for investments in solar and wind capacities, accelerating the goal of 1.7 GW of renewable energy by 2030. The mechanism creates security, lower costs, and a competitive market, crucial for the transition to clean energy.

With EBRD support and international expertise, Macedonia will adapt this mechanism to the local energy market, opening new opportunities for investors, expected to lead to accelerated renewable source development and stable long-term consumer prices. The preparation will continue with analysis of the regulation and financial aspects, to create a model that brings real and sustainable results.
