Minister of Interior Panche Toshkovski affirmed that combating illegal drug trafficking remains a primary strategic objective for the Ministry of Interior. This statement was made during his address at the 16th session of Working Group 4 of the National Convention for the European Union in Macedonia.
Toshkovski highlighted the pervasive impact of drug and psychotropic substance issues on all sectors of society. He emphasized that the fight against drug trafficking is crucial not only due to its detrimental effects on youth and public health but also because it serves as a significant source of power and resources for organized criminal networks. The minister stressed the necessity of a shared, inclusive, and strategically focused approach in tackling this issue.
The Minister stated that the Ministry of Interior is at the forefront of preventing illicit drug trafficking and constantly encounters the evolving challenges, including the rise of synthetic substances, their accessibility, and connections to organized crime and transnational networks.
Toshkovski underscored that the fight against drugs extends beyond arrests and seizures, encompassing data-driven approaches, scientifically sound policies, school prevention programs, treatment and social support initiatives, inter-institutional trust, and consistent communication with citizens and the community. He emphasized the importance of these multifaceted efforts in effectively addressing the issue.
