Minister for European Affairs, Orhan Murtezani, emphasized the importance of EU enlargement as a geopolitical issue requiring decisive action during an event at the Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts. He stated that integrating the Western Balkans is crucial for regional peace and the EU’s global credibility.

Murtezani highlighted North Macedonia’s commitment to reforms and European standards despite the prolonged accession process. He warned that delays in EU enlargement could create vulnerabilities and encourage actors who undermine European unity.

Murtezani noted the significance of dialogues in a time of geopolitical change, emphasizing that enlargement is more than a bureaucratic process and requires strategic clarity. He stated that North Macedonia and the Western Balkans are key to stability and a strategic base for Europe.

The Minister added that the EU needs to translate its rhetoric of enlargement as a strategic investment into concrete action. He said that North Macedonia is consistently implementing reforms in governance, the rule of law, and economic resilience, aligning with the Union’s standards.
