Two suspected smugglers were arrested, and three migrants were detained after attempting to illegally cross the border between North Macedonia and Greece. The incident occurred at 7:30 PM near the Bogorodica Border Crossing.
Police officers from the Bogorodica Border Crossing and Border Surveillance Police Station apprehended L.J., 35, and a 17-year-old, both from China, along with U.K., 23, from Afghanistan. Two other individuals involved in the attempted crossing fled the scene and remain at large.
Following an investigation, D.T., 32, and V.T., 49, both from Gevgelija, were arrested near the border on suspicion of “smuggling migrants” under Article 418-B of the Criminal Code.
Mobile phones found near the suspects were seized and are being examined as part of the investigation. The suspects are currently being held at the police station.
Police have stated that a report will be filed against the suspects in coordination with a public prosecutor after the case is fully documented.
