Memorandum of Cooperation Signed Between North Macedonia and Montenegro Energy Regulators

North Macedonia’s Regulatory Commission for Energy, Water Services and Municipal Waste Management Services (RKE) and Montenegro’s Regulatory Agency for Energy and Water Services (REGAGEN) have formalized a Memorandum of Cooperation. This agreement focuses on tariff methodologies for electricity and water, consumer protection, and institutional development through capacity building.

According to Marko Bislimoski, President of RKE, continuous employee training is crucial for regulators to navigate the complexities of price formation, which requires technical, economic, and legal expertise. He emphasized the need for prices to ensure reliable energy and water supply while remaining affordable and protecting vulnerable consumers.

Branislav Prelevic, President of the Board of REGAGEN, highlighted that the memorandum formalizes a long-standing collaboration. He noted that the pandemic and energy crisis have revealed shared challenges across the region, necessitating a synchronized approach. He emphasized that exchanging experiences has a practical impact on creating solutions for a reliable supply of electricity and water.

This regulatory workshop marks the second collaboration between RKE and REGAGEN. RKE previously signed a similar Memorandum of Cooperation with the Greek Regulatory Authority for Energy, Water and Waste Management (RAAEY).
