Centar Municipality is prioritizing fire safety and facade maintenance, announcing new subsidy opportunities for building rehabilitation. The municipality held a working meeting between Mayor Goran Gerasimovski, the Sector for Inspection Affairs, and numerous managers of residential and residential-commercial buildings, along with presidents of house councils, to address these critical issues.
The primary focus of the meeting was fire protection challenges and the maintenance of building facades. Mayor Gerasimovski emphasized the importance of ongoing collaboration to ensure building safety for all residents, highlighting the positive response from managers in providing fire protection information. Key priorities include the functionality of fire extinguishers, accessibility of stairwells, and the operability of fire hydrants. The municipality aims to pursue systemic solutions in cooperation with ZELS (Association of Local Self-Government Units) and the Directorate for Protection and Rescue.
Municipal inspectors stressed the necessity of consistent and transparent communication with building managers. They urged immediate reporting of any identified issues, particularly blocked fire escape stairs. Upon receiving reports, a building inspector will assess the situation, document findings, and issue necessary directives.
A recurring problem raised during the meeting involved theft and vandalism of mailboxes containing fire-fighting equipment. Building managers are actively working to safeguard these systems and improve overall building safety. They also advocated for the prompt adoption of a standardized, nationwide fire protection solution applicable to all local self-governments.
In addition to fire safety, the meeting addressed concerns about deteriorated and unsafe building facades. The Municipality of Centar announced upcoming calls in April and May for subsidies to support the renovation of facades, roofs, and elevators.
