Krste Gospodinovski’s new short animated film, “Silent Movies,” has been selected for the official competition at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in France. This marks a significant achievement for Macedonian animation, being the first film since 1977 to be included in the festival’s official selection.
“Silent Movies,” produced by Fokus Pokus Films and Flip Book Productions with support from the Film Agency, will compete against 70 other films for a prestigious award. The film is based on a screenplay by Krste Gospodinovski, Žarko Ivanov, and Dimitar Dimoski, inspired by Dimitar Dimoski’s short story.
The film tells the story of a small cinema clinging to the silent era, where a former film star screens only silent movies. His son, raised in this isolated world, faces a revelation that disrupts his relationship with his father.
Made using puppet stop animation, “Silent Movies” stands out for being filmed in one continuous shot.
The Annecy festival will take place from June 8 to 14 in Annecy, France. “Silent Movies” will also be screened at Animafest Zagreb. A Macedonian premiere is planned for the near future.
