Levica Seeks Accountability Following Tragedy in Kochani

Levica is calling for accountability following a tragedy in Kochani, citing inaction by various institutions. The political party believes that no one should be exempt from responsibility, particularly officials from the current government.

Levica finds it unacceptable that the director of the State Market Inspectorate (SMI), Vlatko Stojkoski, seems to be free from any responsibility, especially considering that a significant number of catering facilities were operating without proper licenses.

The party points out that the SMI director announced a strict control of caterers back in January, but this control seemingly did not extend to the illegal construction in Kochani where the tragedy took place. Levica highlights the fact that despite having numerous market inspectors outside Skopje, their apparent inaction until the tragedy is clear, suggesting that the inspectorates are staffed with party employees who are not fulfilling their legal duties. They claim this indicates deep corruption within the system. As an example, they say all six facilities in the municipality of Tetovo operated without a license, despite the presence of 26 market inspectors in Tetovo alone.

Levica questions whether Minister Toshkovski is protecting directors like Vlatko Stojkoski due to their party affiliation.

The party insists that current officials should not be excused from responsibility, especially in light of the tragedy. Levica believes that Vlatko Stojkoski should take moral responsibility and resign, and that an impartial investigation should determine whether he bears any criminal responsibility.
