The Levica party is demanding the immediate dismissal of Minister of Health Taravari, accusing him of negligence and responsibility for the closure of the only operating room at the Clinic for Cardiac Surgery, which they say led to a patient’s death. According to the party, the closure represents a collapse of the health system.
Levica claims that Taravari is attempting to evade responsibility by using an expert commission to investigate potential omissions by healthcare workers in the case of the deceased patient.
The party is also questioning the procurement of a computed tomography (CT) machine, alleging the tender was not publicly announced and demanding transparency regarding the purchase price and the winning company. They further allege the company in question has a history of controversial public health procurements at inflated prices, referencing a previous tender during the tenure of Minister Fatmir Mejiti.
Levica contends that the closure of the operating room may be linked to an improperly implemented tender with this controversial company. They also criticize the Ministry of Health for allegedly procuring the CT machine without first assessing the Clinic’s suitability for its installation, leading to further delays in the operating room’s reopening due to necessary structural reconstruction.
Levica accuses Minister Taravari of prioritizing local elections over the well-being of patients and insists that the government take immediate action.
