Parliamentarians have supported legal changes to the Law on Offenses Against Public Order and Peace following a tragic incident at the “Puls” discotheque in Kochani, with the goal of preventing future accidents by banning pyrotechnics in enclosed spaces. The proposal received overwhelming support in a shortened procedure, passing with 87 votes in favor.
The proposal will now go to the parliamentary Committee on Defense and Security and the Legislative and Legal Committee for consideration.
In addition, regulations are being changed to include increased fines for violators, with repeat offenders facing detention, and police will have expanded powers in these situations.
MP Toni Jarevski stated that the amendments are intended to prevent improvisations that could lead to future breakdowns and accidents.
The parliamentary session began with a minute of silence to honor those affected by the tragedy in Kochani.
