Judicial Council Reviews Verdict in Teodora Ristevska Case

The Judicial Council examined the verdict for the driver who killed 22-year-old Teodora Ristevska in Tetovo, where he received a two-year prison sentence. The review follows public outcry and a request from Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski.

The announcement clarifies that the law prohibits changing a verdict to the detriment of the accused if only the accused files an appeal. After an initial sentence of 3.5 years, only the defendant appealed, not the Prosecutor’s Office.

Mickoski expressed his disappointment, stating that the Court of Appeal reduced the initial sentence to two years, after which the Supreme Court overturned both verdicts and returned the case for retrial. He questioned whether justice was served, calling the situation a failure of the system.

Mickoski publicly requested the Judicial Council to review the judge’s work and reconsider the verdict.
