The International Police Association (IPA) Ohrid is hosting the ninth annual IPA Bike Weekend “ON A WHEEL, LET ME SEE OHRID AND STRUGA,” which kicks off tomorrow, June 13th. A highlight of the event is the recreational cycling tour Ohrid-Struga-Radozda scheduled for Saturday, June 14th.
The primary objective of the event is to promote cycling connections between Ohrid and Struga, as well as Ohrid and Sv. Stefan, with a modern and safe bicycle path. IPA Ohrid emphasizes the importance of these cycling routes for tourism and the well-being of residents and tourists.
The organization believes that developing these cycling paths will promote Ohrid, Struga, and the surrounding region as attractive destinations for cycling tourism, potentially increasing tourist numbers. IPA Ohrid urges the municipalities of Ohrid and Struga to prioritize the creation of cycling connections between Ohrid and Struga and Ohrid-Sv. Stefan.
Participants can collect their IPA sets tomorrow at 7:30 PM at the city port in Ohrid. The recreational cycling tour will commence on Saturday at 8:00 AM from the same location.
The cycling route will start at the “Raspaće” intersection on “Turistička” boulevard, following one lane of the highway under construction to the former “Kocare” restaurant. Cyclists will then join the old Ohrid-Struga road along the shore of Lake Ohrid. A meeting point for cycling groups from Ohrid and Struga is planned at the “EVRO HOTEL” at 8:45 AM, after which the group will cycle together through the landscapes near Kalishta, the “Biser”, “Izgrev” and “Makpetrol” hotels to Radozda.
IPA Ohrid highlights the need for safe cycling paths in the Ohrid-Struga region, advocating for dedicated routes instead of cyclists sharing roads with cars, buses, and trucks. The organization calls for proper cycling infrastructure, including marked paths and traffic signals.
IPA Ohrid urges members of IPA Ohrid and IPA Macedonia, cycling clubs, and cycling enthusiasts to participate in the event to send a message to the authorities about the need for a modern cycling network in the region. The goal is to prevent accidents and ensure the safety of cyclists.
