The Ministry of Interior will launch a new tender for uniforms to equip 6,000 police officers. This announcement was made by Minister of Interior Panche Toshkovski.
The move follows public concerns regarding a previous procurement for special police uniforms worth 3.8 million euros, which was awarded to a small fashion studio and a recently established company. While Minister Toshkovski maintains the previous procurement was legal, he acknowledged that it lacked sufficient criteria.
Toshkovski emphasized the need for dignified uniforms for police officers. He described current uniform conditions as a “disaster” and criticized attempts to obstruct the procurement process as manipulation and unfounded accusations.
The Minister expressed hope that both the current and future procurements would be implemented swiftly. He also highlighted the lack of investment in administrative services over the past eight years, contrasting it with the current efforts to improve the police force’s appearance and resources.
Toshkovski made these statements during the opening of renovated facilities for passport and ID card issuance at the Macedonian Television building. He expressed confidence that the public will recognize the government’s efforts and render their judgment in the upcoming local elections.
