Interior Minister Advocates for Pedestrian Safety Through Legal Reform

Interior Minister Panche Toshkovski participated in a public debate on pedestrian safety, emphasizing the need for legal reforms to address the high number of traffic fatalities. Toshkovski highlighted that current regulations are inadequate and stressed the importance of respecting traffic laws to reduce pedestrian casualties.

Toshkovski noted that last year saw approximately 30 pedestrian fatalities and 140 total traffic-related deaths nationwide, figures exceeding the European average. He underscored the Ministry’s commitment to implementing legal changes aimed at creating safer streets, traffic conditions, and increased citizen safety.

The “Safe City” project, initially launching in Skopje, Kumanovo, and Tetovo before expanding nationally, is expected to significantly reduce future fatalities. Toshkovski concluded by affirming the project’s potential to save lives previously lost in traffic accidents.
