An Inter-Party Parliamentary Group dedicated to supporting the rights, inclusion, and integration of Roma people in North Macedonia has been established. The group was formed on Đurđevden, a significant Roma holiday.
The group includes members from all political parties represented in the Assembly. Igor Zdravkovski MP was elected as President of the Group. Amar Mecinović MP and Arbana Pasholi MP will serve as his deputies.
Despite the current parliamentary composition lacking Roma representation, the Group will advocate for Roma citizens.
During the group’s formation, Zdravkovski presented concerning statistics regarding the education, unemployment, and institutional inclusion of Roma people. He emphasized the urgent need for greater efforts to improve the circumstances of the Roma community in the country.
The President of the Assembly, Afrim Gashi, attended the establishment of the Group and expressed his support. He showed an interest in actively participating in advancing the rights of Roma people.
Gashi urged those present to recognize the problems of Roma people and asked for systematic solutions to be found. He stated that respecting the Constitution, which guarantees equal rights for all citizens, is crucial. Gashi added that Members of Parliament have a specific duty to ensure that no one in the country experiences discrimination.
