The Food and Veterinary Agency (FVA) is conducting intensified controls ahead of the Easter holidays to ensure food safety. As part of these efforts, official veterinarians and food inspectors are performing extraordinary supervisions.
During these controls, 1230 kilograms of unsafe products were destroyed. These products included meat, meat products, eggs, dyes, honey, brandy, olive oil, and other items. The goal of the 350 supervisions was to prevent the sale of unsafe food and illegal trade in eggs and egg dyes.
For inconsistencies found during the inspections, fines totaling 3650 euros were issued, along with 22 decisions ordering the removal of the identified issues.
The Agency urges citizens to be responsible consumers during this period of increased food demand. Consumers are advised to purchase food only from approved and registered operators that are under the control of the Agency’s inspection services. It is important to pay attention to product declarations, markings, expiration dates, and storage temperatures, especially for perishable goods.
Citizens are encouraged to report any food safety inconsistencies to the Agency. Reports can be made in person, by phone at 0800 3 22 22, or electronically at info@fva.gov.mk.
